Assessment
RANA's Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) or Registered Nurses (RNs) perform respiratory assessments to determine your oxygen needs.
During the assessment, the RRT or RN will:
- Ask you questions about your medical history
- Listen to your chest and heart with a stethoscope
- Evaluate your breathing rate and blood oxygen level
- Examine your skin color
- Determine how well you can perform activities without becoming short of breath
Who needs a Respiratory Assessment?
- People who think they need home oxygen
- Home oxygen clients who feel their oxygen therapy is not as effective as it used to be
- Oxygen clients requiring a portable oxygen concentrator
- Oxygen clients requiring an oxygen conserving device for their portable oxygen cylinder
RANA also performs assessments for clients in these programs:
- First Nations and Inuit Health
- Unemployment Insurance
- Income Protection
- Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA)
- Note: In Alberta, DVA clients must meet the same eligibility criteria set by Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL).
