Optimized Safety
Are your miners safe?
Studies show that miners in a refuge chamber will experience breathing difficulty after 3 to 5 hours without an independent supply of breathable air.
Such chambers will reach the “Minimum Limit Value” for oxygen within 8 hours; below this limit judgment becomes impaired.

RANA's Solution
RANA's complete mine refuge system including our portable self-contained refuge chamber, The Tommyknocker and our award winning Refuge One Air Centre, ensures your trapped miners have breathable air while waiting for a rescue operation to reach them.
RANA's mine refuge equipment must meet these criteria:
- Affordably and reliably maintain breathable air
- Be independent of a mine’s power
- Be independent of compressed air lines
- Function with simple-to-use controls
- Be manufactured with a rugged design to withstand the rigors of mine conditions
The Refuge One purges poisonous carbon dioxide by passing the chamber’s air through carbon dioxide scrubbers. The unit also replenishes oxygen from high-pressure oxygen cylinders at a metered rate based on the number of occupants.
Our single bed Refuge One model is designed to support up to 15 people; our double bed model supports up to 30 people.
